Healing Your Past Through the Roots of the Tree (Heal & Paint Part 1)

Women painting trees during a Chicago healing art experience focused on past trauma and personal growth.

Heal & Paint: A Faith-Based Healing Experience

At every Heal & Paint, I begin with the same reminder:

This is not about being an artist.

This is not about perfection.

This is about emotion.

This is about allowing God to meet you in places you may not have words for yet.

This experience is guided.

You don’t need artistic skill. You need honesty.

Because healing is not created with talent. It is revealed through surrender.

Why We Use a Tree as a Symbol of Healing

During this Heal & Paint experience, we travel through time using the symbolism of a tree.

The tree represents:

  • Your past (the roots)
  • Your present (the trunk)
  • Your future (the branches)

We begin underground.

We begin at the roots.

This is where healing truly starts.

The Roots: Healing the Past Beneath the Surface

The roots of the tree represent your past.

They represent the experiences that shaped you long before anyone saw your growth.

The silent battles.

The disappointments.

The survival seasons.

The unanswered questions.

Some roots formed through pain.

Some formed through resilience.

Some through confusion.

Some through faith you didn’t even know you had.

But here is the truth: Roots do not trap a tree.

Roots anchor it.

There were seasons you thought were breaking you.

But they were building your depth.

There were moments you thought were wasted.

But God wastes nothing.

What the Bible Says About Being Rooted

Scripture speaks directly to this truth in Book of Jeremiah 17:7–8:

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Even when heat comes.

Even during drought.

Even when growth is invisible.

The roots are still expanding.

God is still sustaining.

Faith-based healing is not about pretending the drought never happened.

It is about knowing your roots were strengthened in it.

God Does Not Waste Your Experiences

Everything you have lived through brought you here.

Even the parts you wish never happened.

Especially the parts you wish never happened.

Healing does not begin where people can see it.

It begins beneath the surface.

And just because no one applauded your survival…

Does not mean heaven ignored it.

God was present.

God was growing you.

God was preparing you to stand.

Key Reflection

“Healing doesn’t start where people can see it. It starts beneath the surface.”

What Happens Next in the Heal & Paint Journey?

The roots were just the beginning.

In Part 2, we move into the trunk, the present season you are standing in now.

In Part 3, we move into the branches, the future you are becoming in God’s timing.

Then we step into the branches, what is becoming.

If you missed this Heal & Paint experience, our next event is open for registration.

Our last gathering sold out.

Don’t wait until the room is full to decide you’re ready to heal.

Your roots already know it’s time…
